President Donald Trump has brought fresh momentum to ending the nearly four-year war between Russia and Ukraine. After intense diplomacy, including talks in Berlin involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump declared that a resolution is within reach.
Speaking at a recent event, Trump shared details of his direct involvement. “We had a very good conversation one hour ago with the European leaders, many of them, involving the war with Russia and Ukraine. We had a long discussion, and things are seemingly going well.”
He added that he spoke at length with Zelenskyy and leaders from countries like Germany, Italy, France, the UK, and others. “I had a long talk with President Zelensky. Also, I spoke with the heads of Germany, Italy, NATO, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Poland, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands. We had very long and very good talks.”
Trump expressed strong optimism based on his communications with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We had numerous conversations with President Putin of Russia, and I think we’re closer now than we have been ever, and we’ll see what we can do.”
The focus remains on stopping the bloodshed. “We want to save a lot of lives,” Trump said, noting heavy casualties in areas like Kyiv.
He pointed out the fluctuating desires on both sides: “At this moment, Russia wants to get it ended. The problem is they’ll want to get it ended, and then all of a sudden they won’t, and Ukraine will want to get it ended, and all of a sudden they won’t. So we have to get them on the same page.”
Trump laid blame for the conflict’s start squarely on the previous administration. “The war should never have begun… it’s Biden’s situation.”
Recent reports from multiple outlets confirm progress in Berlin negotiations, where discussions covered security guarantees resembling Article 5 protections and potential Ukrainian EU membership. Officials note that about 90% of issues are resolved, though territorial matters remain contentious. Trump has already resolved eight other global conflicts since taking office, positioning an Ukraine deal as the next major achievement.
As fighting continues on the ground with Ukrainian counterattacks in places like Kupyansk and Russian strikes on infrastructure, Trump’s hands-on approach—through envoys and direct talks—offers the best path to a lasting peace that prioritizes American interests and ends unnecessary loss of life.
