Rowling has been under near-constant attack from transgender rights activists and other various online bullies after declaring her support in December 2019 for a British woman (Maya Forstater) who lost her job after old tweets surfaced where she stated biological men could not be women.
“Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill,” Rowling tweeted at the time.
Despite the massive amount of pushback she received, Rowling was unapologetic about her stance, and maintained her position even in the midst of a second round of backlash 6 months later over more tweets she posted ripping militant trans rights advocates for trying to silence women.
