South Dakota has just introduced new laws that ban taxpayer money from being used to develop, promote, or purchase fake “meat” products such as lab-grown “beef” or insect-based “foods.”
Bill HB 1118 was introduced in the state’s House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee by Rep. Jana Hunt (R) on January 29.
The legislation has now been signed into law by Republican Gov. Larry Rhoden.
It comes amid a global push to flood the food supply with hyper-processed “synthetic” or “cultivated” products to replace real meat.
