The officials, who work in “acting roles” while sanctioned positions in the Executive Branch remain vacant, have violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
Established in 1998, the act “establishes requirements for temproary filling vacant positions in Executive Branch agencies that require a persidential appointment and Senate confirmation,” the GAO said in a report.
“This act identifies who may temporarily serve, for how long, and what happens when no one is erving under the act and the position is vacant.”The group, which technically operates under the legislative branch, forwarded reports of the violations to both the president and Congress.The staffers that have overstayed their welcome include a member of the Office of Management and Budget, Assistant Secretary of ICE and a high-ranking member of the Department of Justice.Some of the officials […]
